Order Form: What is the difference between 'Sample Name', 'Case ID' and 'Subject ID'?

Modified on Thu, 31 Oct at 10:23 AM

The Sample Name is a unique name that you choose for each sample. The CaseID is used when samples are related and should be analysed together, such as a tumor sample and its corresponding normal/germline sample, or samples from the same family (e.g. trios).

The Subject ID is an identifier for the individual or organism from which the samples are derived. If you have multiple samples from the same individual, they should all share the same Subject ID. This is different from the Case ID, which could represent a grouping, such as a family. If you are sending only single, unrelated samples, you can base the Case ID of the Sample Name instead and add e.g. “fam” to the end as mentioned in the information link of the Order Form.
